Theft from Work/Need Help

Postby brancool2001 » Sat Feb 06, 2010 6:33 pm

Hello, I just was fired from work for theft. Keep in mind, I have a CLEAN record, no tickets, nothing. They caught me with around $480 in cash on the spot, and I returned it immediately. They also have proof, and admittance from me, of about $400 more in stolen cash. I offered to repay, but they denied instant resitution and instead called the police and reported me. Here is some more information. When they caught me originally, she asked about several transactions, many of which, I was not a part of. This only angered her and made her not believe much of what I said when the real questioning began. Can they charge me for the money that was immediately returned on the spot? It never left the store. Also, when I was brought into the back office by a manager, she told me if I came forward she wouldn't contact the police. Well, I did tell her about the past, but she still called the police because she didn't believe me. She assumed there was more that I was hiding. I asked her for the transactions she was accusing me of, and she couldn't produce any. She just stated there were cameras and she can look it up whenever she wants to. I was then persuaded to make a statement of how much I took, and if I could, when. Under pressure, I did. They still called the police, which then asked me for a statement. Lots went on because it was a whirlwind and if I made any mistakes please let me know, I did mess up originally, but I have a feeling they are going to try and pin more on me than what I admitted to.

They can and will likely charge you for at least the two thefts totaling $880.00. Depending on what state that is a Felony charge! You need to start calling Lawyers and discuss what options you have. Have you been charged yet? If so what is charge (penal code)?

You would be hard pressed to prove that it was about you. That is a common saying and it is neither slander or libel (one is written and the other is spoken). Also, if proven she was talking about you, what she said IS true - another employee bit the dust. Highly unprofessional, but hardly illegal.

What I would do now is work on paying the civil demand and restitution. Also work on paying a lawyer. Steal no more. Take a deep breath. You will be fine. Don't worry about the facebook, just focus on what you need to do.
